The Showdown Mas Camp, home of 8-times Kaiso Monarch, King Dice, and Dominica’s reigning Monarch Daryl “De Bobb” Bobb has made a comeback in 2019. Hampered by lack of sponsorship and the challenges in the aftermath of hurricane Maria, the tent was not held in 2018. But it evident, based on the organizers own admission, that Showdown Mas Camp which is known for their on-you-feet Kaiso showcase, has not been able to attract and sustain lucrative corporate support.
Dr. Valda Henry, one of the organization’s leaders, suggests that this might very well be the make or break year for the tent. As to why patronage and partnership support has not been forthcoming, probably an analysis may provide the answers. Showdown is one of two major Calypso tents operating in Dominica during the carnival season; Stardom Tent is the other. The Showdown Mas Camp will be staged at the Old Mill in Canefield on Fridays, beginning January 18, 2019. Emonews will provide feedback on the tent’s first outing for the 2019 Calypso season.
