Kohath, a student of the Dominica State College, has been selected to train in Italy with the Zappi Racing Team for three months in the first instance and the opportunity to compete in Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) races including an Italian Under 23 competition if his performance is at the required level.
This opportunity comes as a direct result of collaboration between the Dominica Cycling Association(DCA) and the Dominica Olympic Committee(DOC). The associations facilitated Kohath to travel to Antigua where he was selected by scouts present there.
Kohath is excited for the opportunity and thanks his family, the DCA, the DOC, and Jeffrey Kelsick for their support and contribution in this venture.
His advice to other young persons is, “Remain humble, work hard and let the opportunity come to you”. Kohath is excited to begin training and says about the bicycles which he will use, “I’m really looking forward to riding them. I hear that they are pretty good bikes. I’m looking forward to riding them and pushing it to the limit”.
He adds, “I have to reach on that other level when I travel because it is not easy. I know it’s not easy but I’m willing to put in the work to compete and maybe even win in that category”.
Kohath is the son of Levi and Nebbie Baron of Pichelin. Levi confesses that his son showed interest in the sport all on his own and he was there to support him even at first he was reluctant to.
President of the DCA, Ronald Charles and President of the DOC Billy Doctrove both praised Kohath for being a disciplined young man and wished him well. They encouraged him to give it his best shot and promised that they will be available to support him in whatever way possible.
Kohath is scheduled to leave Dominica tomorrow for Italy.
Emonews congratulates Kohath Baron on this great accomplishment.
