Government Commits 10 Million Dollars to Scholarship Payments

In addressing students receiving Government assistance, Education Minister, Petter St.Jean revealed that $10, 945, 981.99 has been committed to students for the financial year 2019-2020.

The Minister said that the Minister of Finance and Prime Minister must approve some of the scholarships before going to Parliament to approve the budget. He said that more opportunities are available to students under this administration.

“We had traditional partners like Cuba, Mexico, and some other countries. We strengthened ties with them and we beefed up the program so rather than six students going to Cuba or as happened in 1978, maybe 3 or 4 when the first group of Dominicans went to Cuba. We strengthened ties with those partners, beefed up the programs and today every year we have no less than 13 young Dominicans getting into university in Cuba”.

While he was unable to reveal the exact date for the budget presentation, he suspects that it will be somewhere about the end of July or early August.
