The Prime Minister of Dominica, Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit has described Dr. Carissa Ettiene as a monumental figure in Public Health who made her mark for two terms as the Director of Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

He noted that Dr. Ettiene was particularly effective and inspiring for her work in the reduction of health inequalities. He further stated that she led Dominica to a place of distinction in primary health care and that she would definitely be remembered as a physician and community person known for her kindness and warmth for people

In light of her recent passing, cabinet has agreed for Dr. Ettiene to be afforded an official funeral, details of which will be shared with the public at a later date.
