Miss OECS Returns to Dominica

The Miss OECS  Pageant which was held in Dominica from 1984 – 1995 will make a comeback this year under new management. Head of the Independence Committee,  Raymond Lawrence, said that the pageant’s purpose was ‘to foster and strengthen  Caribbean Integration and togetherness especially among the OECS countries and to build lasting bonds of friendship and cooperation within the region’.

He says that even with new management the aim and purpose of the event remain the same. Lawrence said that the show was well-received by Dominicans and visitors alike and made a very positive impact on Dominica and the region.

Pageant director, Ms. Romualda Hyacinth says that her love for pageantry was what motivated her to pursue the revival of the Miss OECS pageant. She said the response from the other countries was a very positive  one.”It is our hope that this pageant will allow each contestant to promote her country and culture and will highlight the extraordinary talents, intelligence, poise and charm of the young women throughout the OECS.

The 2019 Miss OECS pageant will feature six contestants and they are:

  • Saskia Evans- St. Kitts
  • Mikelle Joseph- Antigua and Barbuda
  • Marisol John- Dominica
  • Earlyca Frederick -St.Lucia
  • Sylvorn Lavia- St.Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Odessa Merryman- Grenada

The contestants will be pre-judged on a promotional video which will include a promotional speech about the contestant and the contestant’s country. There will be five rounds on the night of the show: Cultural Spectacle in creative national costume, Performing Talent, Swimwear, Eveningwear, and Question and Answer.

The Miss OECS  Pageant 2019 will take place at the forecourt of the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on November 1, 2019, at 8 pm sharp under the theme ‘Celebrating Harmonization and Integration in Pageantry’.
