The Karifuna Cultural Group of Kalinago Territory, Dominica has made a successful return from the 4th edition of the fair, “Twariv Festiv” hosted over the weekend in the town of Trois-Riviére from August 8 to 12, 2025.
In 2023, the town of Trois-Rivières inaugurated its territorial brand “Trois-Rivières, Terre Amérindienne”, to promote its amerindian history. The fair was held to honour and celebrate the rich heritage inherited from their Kalinago ancestors.
Karifuna cultural group presented aspects of Kalinago heritage through traditional music and dance on August 9 and 10.
On August 9, the associations Contact et recherches Caraïbes (CORECA), Kalina Gwada, and Karib Horizon organized a conference-debate on the theme ” Survival and Transmission of Our Kalinago Heritage .” It was held at the Capesterre-Belle-Eau City Hall during which President of Karifuna Cultural Group and Miss Dominica 2023, Adicia Burton presented her contribution as a panelist where she highlighted the significant role of Kalinagos in the Caribbeans history and the importance of Indigenous Education.
Members of the group also had the opportunity to display and sell their Kalinago craft and produce at the fair. The nine members of Karifuna Cultural Group was joined by Native Nutri Cassava Delicacies, a Kalinago family based business who made Cassava on site in Trois Riviére.
Karifuna Cultural Group expresses their gratitude to the organizers and community of Trois Riviére, and sponsors Koda Surgicare Inc. and the Ministry of Kalinago Upliftment whose invaluable contributions made their participation possible.
The Karifuna Cultural Group formed in 1978, proudly continues to uphold their responsibility of preserving and promoting Kalinago culture and history.
