Being a Dominican means that we speak creolized English- that is English and creole used all at once. It is sometimes so much easier for us as Dominicans to express how we truly feel and to do so passionately through the use of colloquial terms.
Below is a list of the expressions that Dominicans use to tell another person that he/she is stupid without using the word stupid. Based on the intonation used, some of these expressions can either make one feel that they are just ‘silly’ or plain out ‘daft’.
Which of these do you use the most?
- Ou toh Sot
- Zeh-zeh
- Mac-kak
- Dunce-cat
- Dum-dum
- Majee
- Ah-beh-beh
- Teh-beh
- Dotish
- Dor-dor
- Coshonie
- Ig-no-wah
- Mal-tete
- Ped-tete
- Sorti douva mwe (if someone is really being outrageous. Literally translated into ‘get out of here’)
