Government Unable to Accept Aspects of Report from Joint Special Mission on Electoral Reform

According to Attorney General, Levi Peter, the report of the Joint Special Mission of the Commonwealth, CARICOM, and OAS indicates that existing legislation must be reviewed in order to introduce photo identification card and that the Prime Minister has the constitutional right to call elections whenever he chooses.

On the other hand, some aspects of the report, namely house to house re-verification of voters, cannot be put in place at this time as this will confuse electors and cause disruption.

The government agrees with the report that electoral reform must be properly managed in order to achieve its intended purpose and not confuse electors or cause disruption to the electoral administration. The Government has written its response to the Joint Special Commission.
