Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis – The new EC$50 polymer banknotes, which are made from a thin, flexible and transparent plastic film, are now available in the Commonwealth of Dominica.
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank has issued the new $50 polymer banknotes to all the commercial banks, in the Commonwealth of Dominica.
The $50 is the first in the family of EC polymer notes which the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) launched in May. The EC polymer notes are cleaner as they are more resistant to dirt and moisture. The notes are more secure as they are more difficult to counterfeit because polymer allows for the inclusion of advanced security features. The notes are also stronger because they are much more durable than paper and are difficult to tear.
One key feature of the new EC$50 polymer note is the image of the former Governor of the ECCB, late Sir K Dwight Venner on the back of the note.
The current paper EC$50 and the new polymer EC$50 will be in circulation at the same time therefore, in conducting your business you may receive both polymer and paper banknotes.
Posters and brochures of the new family of EC polymer notes are available from the ECCB Agency Office on the 3rd Floor of the Financial Center. Additional information can be obtained from the ECCB”s website: https://www.eccb-centralbank.org/
