DR. GERARD JEAN-JACQUES PRESENTS CREDENTIALS AS CARICOM AMBASSADOR

Dr. Gerard Jean-Jacques officially presented his Letter of Credence as Dominica’s Ambassador to the CARICOM on Friday, February 7, 2025.

In a virtual ceremony, he reaffirmed Dominica’s commitment to regional collaboration and
sustainable development.

Dr. Jean-Jacques highlighted key policy areas dominating Dominica’s agenda, including climate change mitigation, renewable energy, food security, housing, education and healthcare, and reiterated Dominica’s enthusiasm for collaborating with regional partners to address shared challenges. He advocated for increased investments in artificial intelligence to develop innovative solutions for the challenges faced by the small states of the region.

Recognizing the fast-changing geopolitical landscape, Dr. Jean-Jacques underscored the need for CARICOM Member States to strategically reconfigure their intra-regional networks and encouraged the creation of new partnerships with states and entities that share CARICOM’s development goals. This, he noted, would contribute to the sustainability and political consolidation of the Community.

The new Ambassador also called for increased investments in education, training programmes and entrepreneurship support, noting Dominica’s ongoing initiatives to increase access to financing for small business development.

Dr. Jean-Jacques is the holder of a PhD in Political Science. He previously served as the Chief Development Planner and Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister; Ministry of National Security, Labour, and Immigration; and Tourism and Urban Renewal.

The Government of Dominica congratulates Dr. Jean Jacques on his appointment and looks forward to his contributions as he represents the nation’s interests at the regional level.
