DOMINICANS CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE IN WESTERN CANADA

The Commonwealth of Dominica Association of Western Canada(CDAWC)hosted its second annual Dinner and dance gala in Edmonton Alberta on Saturday, November 2nd.

The event was organized by the association to put forth its mission which is to promote and preserve Dominica’s culture and heritage.

The event was attended by the Honorable Kaycee Madu of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, MLA David Shepherd, also in attendance was last year’s honorary member Gwyneth Steber the eldest Dominican living in Alberta.

Dominican born performer Ozella and band rocked the crowd with familiar Dominican style bouyon music. Standing in solidarity with the CDAWC at the gala where the St.Vincent Association, Friends of Barbados Association, the Black Coalition of Edmonton and the Friends and Neighbors Association of Edmonton.

The CDAWC wishes to thank all its members and all those who attended and supported the association throughout the year. The Association also participated in Edmonton’s Heritage Festival for the first time this year.

CDAWC is looking to continue its mission and to cultivate a spirit of togetherness and National Pride for Dominicans in Western Canada.
