Dominican writer and poet Anella Shillingford has released her newest body of work, Feels Like Home, a literary mixtape that blends poetry, music, and memory into an intimate exploration of love, healing, and belonging.
“Feels Like Home is a collection about music, love, home, and healing,” says Shillingford. “Readers will find a mix of poetic prose, free verse poetry, found poems, and lyrical storytelling. I wanted it to sound like something you could listen to — like a playlist for the soul.”
The collection draws on Shillingford’s deep connection to Caribbean life and sound. Through rhythm, repetition, and emotional honesty, she reimagines how poetry can move — not just through words, but through feeling.
Shillingford describes Feels Like Home as “nostalgia captured on paper — a warm hug, a cup of cocoa tea, a Sunday afternoon playlist. I wanted it to feel like home.”
Anella Shillingford has been writing professionally since 2019. Her debut poetry collection, Bonfire (2019), explored themes of womanhood and resilience, while her sophomore collection, Of Rivers and Oceans (2022), delved into the fluidity of identity, nature, and love.
A proud native of Coulibistrie, Dominica, Shillingford continues to create work rooted in the rhythms and languages of the Caribbean, centering Black women’s voices, memory, and the art of healing through words.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
