Behind one of America’s most rapidly rising basketball development programmes stands a story rooted in the soil and spirit of Dominica.
Khalil Brown, founder and director of Pro Dev Unlimited, a New Jersey-based programme ranked the #1 independent basketball organisation in the state by NJHoopsHub, is the son of Dominican parents. His achievements, built through years of professional play and visionary leadership, carry with them the unmistakable imprint of the island that shaped his family’s values: discipline, purpose, community, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
“We are the ultimate bridge programme. We close the gap between experience levels. Players come to us, we develop them and we then use our vast network internationally to place them in appropriate situations if we are unable to offer it ourselves,” said Brown.
That heritage is not merely a biographical footnote. It is a living thread connecting the training halls of New Jersey to the heart of Dominica.
The numbers behind that bridge are remarkable. Since 2023, Pro Dev Unlimited has accumulated nearly 100 tournament championships, more than 1,000 game victories, over 50 undefeated tournaments, and facilitated over $2,000,000 in college scholarships for its athletes. The organisation, which is also closely tied to Johnson Brown Academy and nonprofit Passion Pursuit Academy, has sent athletes to the Nike Jr. EYBL Top 100 Camp, the most prestigious youth evaluation platform in American basketball, and has produced multiple players ranked in the national Top 10.
The programme’s professional network further underlines the calibre Brown has cultivated: training connections include Austin Reaves and Jake LaRavia of the Los Angeles Lakers, alongside Nate Pierre-Louis, Justin Robinson and numerous athletes competing at the highest domestic and international levels. In a moment that will resonate with every Dominican who has ever dreamt of the global stage, Pro Dev Premier performed at Madison Square Garden before more than 20,000 spectators.
A FAMILY’S LEGACY, A NATION’S PRIDE
Khalil’s mother, Sylma Brown, is the president of the Association of the Dominicans in the Northeast US (ADNExUS), representing the diaspora’s enduring commitment to building bridges between Dominica and the island’s sons and daughters wherever they may be. In Khalil, those bridges are not merely symbolic, they are operational: real pathways for real athletes, from the communities that Caribbean families have built with their own hands.
Johnson Brown Academy, co-founded by Brown and Marques Johnson, combines elite academics with flexible scheduling and individualised athlete development. Passion Pursuit Academy, the organisation’s nonprofit arm, focuses on scholarships, mentorship and empowering youth academically, athletically, creatively and entrepreneurially.
For the young people of Dominica — aspiring athletes, aspiring entrepreneurs, aspiring community builders — the story of Khalil Brown is not merely an American story. It is a Dominican story, told on the world’s stage.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
