Barbados to host 2026 Research Frontiers Symposium

Barbados is a small island standing at the edge of new frontiers with untold natural wonders. Its Exclusive Economic Zone is host to a variety of deep-sea ecosystems and economically important pelagic species. The island itself is home to winding gullies and unique and endemic terrestrial life, many of which are still to be described. In light of this, the Ministry of Environment, National Beautification and Fisheries returns with its annual Research Frontiers Symposium to shed light on the various research advances occurring in Barbados; a space for knowledge sharing and collaboration which ensures studies are not operating in silos.
How are size regulations being determined for the dolphinfish, and what are their migration patterns? What progress has been made with the Marine Spatial Plan? On a small island with many land uses in close proximity, how can we ensure key areas for biodiversity, such as Long Pond, are aptly protected? These are the questions which will be answered in this year’s edition of the symposium. Join us as we stand at the edge of these new frontiers to learn about the work being done within the Ministry and by other partners!
Date: Thursday, June 4 and Friday, June 5, 2026

Time: Day 1 – 0900 to 1630 AST | Day 2 – 0900 to 1800

Venue: Hilton Barbados Resort

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
