Additionally, I was the first MSU student ever to be selected to chair a committee at the NMUN conference, which was a great honor”.

He said, “Having dedicated hundreds of hours over the past year to volunteerism and leadership initiatives, serving as the SGA Vice President, the Vice President of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Chapter at MSU, and as the International Chairperson of the regional board of NSBE in the United States, getting this award and nominations made me feel appreciated”.

The awards are very competitive awards with over 100 students representing over 70 delegations for the position paper award and 120 delegations for the Outstanding Delegation award at the NMUN competition. There are about 6000 students at MSU  and 14 were nominated for the MSU awards.

Laronde said that he is a very involved student, serving in 9 student organizations, as well as on 5 university boards and representing his school at several conferences.

He said, “I am also a good academic student, being named on the Dean’s List, Provost’s List and President’s Honor Roll 5 times collectively in my 4 years at MSU. I am also a prominent student researcher, having completed 2 undergraduate research projects and currently completing my senior design project for my Mechanical Engineering degree. I believe that being a well rounded student benefitted me”.
