District Governor of Rotary District 7030 Pays Official Visit to Dominica

Rotary District 7030 Governor Soraya A.J. Warner-Gustave concluded a successful official visit to the Commonwealth of Dominica, marked by high-level engagements, fellowship, and strengthened ties with Rotary and Rotaract clubs across the island.

During her visit from Wednesday, January 28, 2026 to Sunday, February 01, 2026, District Governor Soraya engaged with members of both the Rotary Club of Portsmouth and the Rotary Club of Dominica, fostering fellowship, collaboration, and service.

The visit began with the District Governor’s engagement with the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, where a series of meaningful service activities were undertaken. A major focus of the visit was the Club’s playground projects. The District Governor visited Temple SDA Primary School, where a playground is already in place, and Dublanc/Bioche Primary School, where plans are underway for the construction of another playground aimed at enhancing safe play and child development. The playground projects support the fight against childhood obesity by encouraging active play and healthy movement among students.

The visit also included a meeting at Secret Bay, one of the Club’s corporate sponsors, to discuss continued involvement and support toward long-term sustainability initiatives. In keeping with Rotary’s environmental focus, a tree planting activity was conducted along the Indian River, reinforcing the Club’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The key highlight of the visit for the Rotary Club of Portsmouth was the unveiling of a Peace Pole at Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS)—the first Peace Pole project of its kind undertaken by the Club. During the ceremony, the District Governor addressed the school community, delivering a powerful message on peace, unity, and the role of young people in fostering harmony within their communities.

The latter part of the visit was spent with the Rotary Club of Dominica, featuring a range of activities aligned with Rotary’s mission and areas of focus. In keeping with Rotary’s emphasis on youth engagement and leadership development, District Governor Soraya held separate engagements with the Rotaract Club of Roseau and the Interact Clubs of Dominica State College and Dominica Grammar School. She praised the young Rotarians and Interactors for their energy, innovation, and commitment to service, encouraging them to continue developing as leaders and change-makers in their communities.

This youth-focused engagement was further reinforced through the Dominica Community High School Snack Benches Project, also visited by District Governor Soraya during her official visit. The initiative supports student well-being by providing designated seating areas during snack and lunch periods, fostering a more comfortable and inclusive school environment while underscoring Rotary’s commitment to youth development and community service.

A key highlight for the visit with the Rotary Club of Roseau was District Governor Soraya’s participation in the official handing over ceremony of completed works at the Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU). At the ceremony, she delivered remarks underscoring Rotary’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure and promoting mental health support, while applauding the collaborative efforts of Rotary clubs and partners in bringing the project to fruition.

The clubs paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, underscoring Rotary’s commitment to partnership, service, and national development. Discussions focused on Rotary’s ongoing humanitarian and community development initiatives, as well as opportunities for continued collaboration in areas aligned with Rotary’s areas of focus.

The District Governor also met with the board members of the Rotary Club of Dominica and the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, where she commended their dedication to service above self and their sustained impact in communities throughout Dominica. These meetings provided an opportunity to review current projects, exchange best practices, and reaffirm Rotary’s strategic priorities within the district.

The official visit concluded with a cocktail reception at Sunset Bay, bringing together Rotarians in a spirit of fellowship and celebration. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the visit’s outcomes and to further strengthen the bonds of Rotary fellowship across generations.

District Governor Soraya expressed her appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Rotary family in Dominica and reaffirmed her confidence in the clubs’ continued positive impact within the district.

Rotary District 7030 comprises clubs across the Caribbean, and the visit reaffirmed the district’s commitment to supporting impactful projects and strengthening Rotary’s presence and partnerships in Dominica.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
