DDSIA Responds To Minister Re Drivers License Testing in the North

The Dominica Driving school instructor association (DDSIA) inc. members met on the 29th of November 2020 to discuss and bring about suggestion as it regards to the decentralization of student’s drivers testing to be done on the north of the Island in a months’ time as stated by the Minister of National security Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore.

The membership welcomes this great initiative as topic like this were, previously discussed with the Head of traffic during a meeting held in August 2020 at their Offices at High street.  Important matters such as the one on hand are so critical as it form part of our main objective and therefore, we want to give commendation to the head and staff of the traffic department for taking our concerns very seriously as we say a heartfelt” thanks”.

The DDSIA Inc has since understand this move will assist in the improvement of decision making and alleviate much needed capacity at the traffic department and reduce the scheduling time students have to wait to do their road exams in the capital.

Subsequently this should include the option that some needed improvement has to be considered in the North East of the Island especially in the Marigot area in term of enhancement signs and marking on the road surfaces.

The DDSIA  Inc is  of the view that these suggestion can assist to ensure it is ready for such decentralization of testing to be conducted. Hence, we are appealing to the authority to take every step cautiously.

On the other hand, adjustment in accountability should be our main focus on the various implementation that can be enforced where every student should be given the opportunity to have at least a minimum of five hour of training within Roseau and environs, where drivers’ learners have most difficulties navigating the streets and surrounding areas. If we are to promote safe driving this should be consider.  The DDSIA Inc. is willing to provide this service where each student will have a firsthand experience to road ethic, safe adherence, drivers’ signs and high way code skills required to navigate in and around the capital. This will ensure that the motoring public can be confident when newly license driver are on their own.

This would help build the student self-confidence and would bring about a safer more reliable drivers, with the skills and knowledge to keep themselves and the general public safe on the road at all times.

We are also appealing to the private individual to work with us to promote safe driving.  We do understand there will be private individuals working with family members. However, we are appealing that good judgement will be sought to work with the Association to help enforce safe driving around Dominica.

The DDSIA Inc. believes that it cannot be business as usual when it comes individual lives and road safety, and as instructor we are to build a safer Dominica for all who live and visit our Country, we will continue to promote safe practices at all times.

In conclusion, our Association has a fundamental role which is to contribute toward safe driving therefore we are willing to forge ahead a much-needed plan which will greatly assist all partners in the decentralization of this renew established framework for driving test to be conducted in the North of the Island.
