The Cooperative Society joins with the rest of the world in celebrating International Cooperative Day on July 6, under the theme ‘Coops 4 Decent Work’.
The theme was chosen to highlight the message that cooperatives are people-centered enterprises characterized by democratic control that prioritize human development and social justice within the workplace.
The Cooperative Movement in collaboration with the Cooperative Division held a panel discussion on Wednesday 3, July at the campus of the University of the West Indies as part of celebration activities.
The theme of the discussion was ‘Building Resilience Through Cooperatives’. The discussion was moderated by Jones Telemaque, Cooperative Officer and featured distinguished panelists in the persons of Dr. Kyra Telemaque, Washbourne Cuffy, Nigel Lawrence, and Phoenix Belfield.
Panelists highlighted the rich history of cooperatives in small developing countries like Dominica and the impact that the movement still has today. They further sought to put forth suggestions as to how cooperatives, especially the producers’ cooperatives, may be strengthened and become more resilient to continue enhancing the lives of all.
