Clean-A-Mile Campaign is set for June 5th as part of World Environment Day

The Ministry of Environment in commemoration of “World Environment Day” under the theme Ecosystem Restoration, has embarked on a project called Clean-A-Mile on June 5th 2021.

The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation as a critical stakeholder of tis ministry, has asked and is asking all youth groups, NGO’s, Churches, Schools, Organizations, Clubs, Government agencies, businesses, Community groups, Disaster preparedness groups, village councils, individuals everyone across the country to get involved.

Clean-A-Mile has been developed to aid in the restoration of our water ways, the removal of debris in and around the roads, gutters, drains, rivers, beaches which affects our environment and pollute the marine life.

Restoring ecosystems large and small protects and improves the livelihoods of people who depend on them. It also helps to regulate disease and reduce the risk of natural disasters. In fact, restoration can help us achieve all of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Gather your groups and teams, choose a mile, call Dominica Solid waste at 449-8168 or 616-8168 or 245-0811 to give your mile and details. Ensure that a picture is taken before you clean and after you clean, upload your pictures to the Dominica Solid Waste Facebook page, take pics during your cleanup and post a video of your team experience to the page, you may just win the day pass at Rosalie Bay Resort.

Thus far there are 37 organizations marked to clean on that day, we are asking other organizations, villages to be part of clean-a-mile, the environment is ours to protect.
