Casier Cadette captures Valedictorian of the Dominica Grammar School

On June 27th 2022, the Dominica Grammar School (DGS) hosted its annual graduation ceremony. Scholar student, Casier Cadette was one of the two Valedictorians at this years’ graduation ceremony.

Upon interview with Emonews, Cadette expressed, “It felt great to hear that I was one of the two valedictorians this year, and I’m really proud of myself.” She went to note that she was faced with a few challenges, however, this did not deter her from reaching this success. “My biggest challenge was myself. There were many times when I felt like I would not be able to do it. I thought I was not pushing hard enough even though there were nights when I studied and did not sleep at all. There were subjects like Mathematics and HSB that I think I could have excelled in if I did not doubt myself so much,” she added.

Furthermore, she pointed out that being one of the two valedictorians really boosted her confidence. “I got to see just how much my hard work paid off. Prayer also helped as I don’t think this would all be possible without guidance from God,” she said.

Moreover, she took the opportunity to express gratitude to everyone who have been instrumental to her success. She articulated, “I already mentioned them in my speech but Ms. Abigail Hamilton, Mr. Desroy Dennis, and Mr. Gabriel Jno Baptiste. They really helped me every step of the way. I probably would not have been ready for CXC if not for the time they each put in with me and the encouragement they provided. Music has also helped me a lot, the only way I can concentrate in a room alone is with music playing in the background.”

Additionally, Cadette encouraged fellow students to try new things and build new experiences. “There is so much pressure put on us to already know what we want at such a young age and to somehow not make any mistakes, which is impossible so I would encourage persons to seek validation from themselves only. Every person has completely different expectations of us and we cannot meet them all,” she advised.

Pointedly, Cadette has a great desire for art which she hopes to someday improve on, converting her talent into a business. “I really love watching a simple sketch come to life on paper. I also hope to explore more forms of art like sculpting, body painting, and even makeup and nail art,” she ended.

With the wealth of opportunities which may be open to Cadette, Emonews wishes her continued success as she pursues more opportunities and embarks on new experiences.
