BLUE ELEMENT TO HOST 3RD EDITION OF FREEDIVING COMPETITION FROM NOVEMBER 20 – 27, 2019

Blue Element will host its third edition of freediving competition in Dominica from November 20-27, 2019.

The freediving depth competition will be held in the warm waters of Soufriere Bay, which offers some of the best Freediving conditions on Earth! No Waves, No Current and No Depth Limit!

Organized by Jonathan Sunnex and Sofia Gomez Uribe, the competition will consist of 6

competition days with 4 competition disciplines where athletes compete to see who can dive the deepest on a single breath. All dives will be performed under the supervision of an experienced safety and medical team and all disciplines will be self-powered with either fins or no fins. This year’s competition will have 13 athletes from 18 different countries. As last year, Caribbean countries such as Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada and Dominica will be represented.

Three Dominicans are registered to compete including national record holders, Vivian Titre and Simon Walsh. They will be joined by newcomer Noah Magloire of Trafalgar. Jonathan expressed that “The current Dominican records are expected to fall with some impressive dives having been seen already in training”.

Prior to the event, the freediving team is currently in training as they prepare for the event and are also conducting weekly beach clean-ups at Soufriere Bay.

Discover Dominica Authority is a part sponsor of the event and will provide comprehensive postings via social media throughout the event.
