DAIC Highlights the Impact of the Global Shipping Issues on Dominica’s Private Sector

On Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 at 7:00 PM, the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) will host the first episode of its Taking Care of Business Show LIVE on Facebook on the topic, “The Impact of the Global Shipping Issues on the Dominica Private Sector.”

This episode, hosted by DAIC Executive Director, Lizra Fabien will feature: International Trade Expert – Andrew Satney, General Manager of Do It Center – Evadney Esprit, Manager of Vees Shipping – Vernesta Newton, and Broker of AC Shillingford and Co. Ltd. – Javeed Joseph.

DAIC has surveyed its membership to assess the impact of the increase in shipping costs globally on the businesses in Dominica and feedback was received from members who regularly import from the US, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. The results from the survey are supporting DAIC’s efforts to increase awareness on the impact of the global shipping issues on the business community as well as its determination of suitable interventions to mitigate the impact of this global challenge.

In the survey, the businesses indicated the impact of the global shipping issues on their businesses with a comparison of the change in the cost of shipping of 20 ft and 40 ft containers from USA, UK/Europe, Asia and the Caribbean for the year 2019 versus 2021. The businesses also indicated actions taken to mitigate the impact of the increasing costs and perspective on the incentives that will positively impact business and customers based on the global shipping issues.

DAIC continues to elevate important issues and discussions to enhance decision-making by all stakeholders. As such, the Chamber invites all businesses and the general public to join this important episode on Tuesday, February 8th via its Facebook page @DominicaChamberDAIC.
