Additional COVID-19 Cases In Dominica; 37 Cases In Total

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to rise. This is according to National Epidemiologist Dr. Shaluddin Ahmed who made the announcement at the Government’s press briefing on Wednesday.

He said, “Two of these new cases are a 60-year-old male from Canefield and a 52-year-old female from the Portsmouth area.

They were detected through routine screening on October 15th and October 17th respectively. These are imported cases; both had valid negative PCR results before entering into Dominica. They are asymptomatic; one of them has an underlying medical condition, namely hypertension.”Dr. Ahmed said that all contacts traced were negative and are currently in isolation. Dr. Ahmed said that presently there is no evidence of community transmission however, if we fail to adhere to COVID-19 protocols, especially the wearing of masks in public, handwashing and physical distancing, we will have community transmission.
