Preschoolers Experience the Journey of Food: From Seed to Plate L’Étoile Du Matin Préscolaire champions agriculture in early childhood education

At L’Étoile Du Matin Préscolaire (The Morning Star Preschool), preschoolers are not just learning the alphabet and numbers—they are getting their hands in the soil and discovering the journey of food from seed to plate. Through hands-on gardening activities, children are learning where their food comes from and the importance of agriculture in daily life and national development.

Miss Georgette Deravairere, better known as Miss D, the principal of the institution, proudly shares:

“Here at this institution, we foster agriculture as a key part of the holistic development of every child. Agriculture in the early childhood education stage is vital to nurturing a balanced and healthy mind.”

Through gardening, the children gain more than just knowledge of plant life. They develop a love for nature, responsibility, self-confidence, healthy eating habits, patience, curiosity, and a deepened awareness of themselves and their environment.

For over five years, agriculture has been a strong educational pillar at L’Étoile Du Matin Préscolaire. The institution continues to encourage preschools across the nation and beyond to embrace backyard gardening as a vital part of learning and life skill development.

“The children had fun discovering what plants need to grow and how to care for them to achieve a healthy harvest—and ultimately, a healthy life,” Miss D added.

With a guiding motto of “Live, Love, Learn,” the preschool continues to plant the seeds of knowledge, responsibility, and sustainability in the minds of the next generation.
