Cathedral High School is holding its first in-person gala in over two years and is excited that renowned singer and Cathedral alumna Marie-Claire will offer a selection of songs as part of the program. The May 18th  function will be held at the Delegates Dining Room at the United Nations.

Marie-Claire is a Lirico Spinto soprano, a jazz singer, musical theatre singer, songwriter, composer, playwright, actor, and activist. Born on the island of Dominica and raised in the Bronx, she started her operatic training in Rome, Italy.  The pandemic afforded Marie-Claire the luxury of time to reflect and she overcame obstacles that were blocking her creative path. With her creativity freed Marie-Claire wrote her first musical and discovered her truth vocal range as a Lirico Spinto soprano. She is looking forward now to make her operatic debut.

Says Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, John Harbison, “Marie-Claire is a very versatile and magnetic singer of a genuine Lirico Spinto soprano voice whose repertoire moves from opera to concert music and beyond. I expect Marie-Claire to continue to produce performances and recordings of high quality and originality.”

Principal Maria Spagnuolo adds, “We are thrilled to have Marie-Claire share her talents at the Around the World Gala on May 18. She is just one of many outstanding Cathedral alumnae who are coming together to raise scholarship funds for the next generation of women of purpose.”

Adds the singer, “During my years at Cathedral High School I was surrounded with girls and teachers filled with passion and ethics to change the world for the better. These values are with me today. I am so delighted to participate.”
