DAIC Impact Assessment of COVID-19 on Employment and Revenues

As DAIC continues to support its membership and the Private Sector through advocacy with the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica and other partners, it continues to be essential to strengthen this advocacy with timely and accurate data.COVID-19 has significantly impacted employment and revenues of all businesses; hence, it was necessary to gain additional insight on this from Dominica’s Private Sector through a second survey led by the DAIC.

As such, the purpose of this survey was to determine the impact of COVID-19 on employment and revenues and to use the data from this survey to support solutions to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the same.

This survey was conducted from April 16th to 23rd, 2020, and was responded to by one hundred and seventy-four (174) businesses from eight (8) sub-sectors.

The results from the survey indicated that most businesses employ 1-10 individuals on a full-time basis; most businesses operate within the survey sector; businesses have laid-off 31% of employees due to COVID-19; 59% of businesses contribute to Dominica Social Security; the loss of revenues by businesses for 2020 is estimated to decline by 35.6% as a result of COVID-19; most businesses have implemented measures to mitigate against employee layoffs, and 50% of the businesses have indicated the use of personal measures to minimize disruptions to their businesses.

The DAIC is truly grateful to all the businesses that participated in this survey. Special gratitude is also extended to our telecommunication and media providers for sharing this survey for completion among the businesses in Dominica.
