53 police recruits to commence six-month training in an effort to increase manpower in Dominica

According to Honorable Rayburn Blackmoore, Minister for Justice, Immigration and National Security, on September 6th and 7th 2021, the Dominica Police Force welcomed fifty-three (53) police recruits inclusive of 14 females and 39 males.

All fifty-three recruits took the oath of office and will commence a six-month period of training.

Blackmoore stated, “The active recruitment of new police officers that is currently ongoing is in keeping with government policy decisions to increase the police establishment from 500 police officers to 600 police officers.”

He continued, “This drive is cemented by the role of the police to protect and serve the citizens of Dominica and to increase capacity and skill within the police force.”

Moreover, he explained that the government of Dominica has identified a need for police officers to be more visible and active within their communities. This is in keeping with their community policing platform which is intrinsic to maintaining a safer society.

Furthermore, Blackmoore concluded, “There is a reasonable expectation by the government that an increase in man power will ultimately give rise to a greater police presence on the streets, provide a more efficient police response time and more visible and vigilant police presence.”
