The Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company celebrates its 55th anniversary with an exciting dance and music production entitled “RHYTHMS OF OUR ROOTS” at St. Gerard’s Hall on Saturday May 30th at 8pm and Sunday May 31st 2026 at 6pm.
The show will feature rhythmic and pulsating dances from the Dance Company and it will also showcase the singing talents of Janae Jackson, AbiYah Yisrael, Phael Lander and Nyel Grove and outstanding drumming by the Paix Bouche Drummers.
The audience will be treated to a range of dances including interpretations of gospel, various afro-beats, bouyon, kadanse and salsa. The dance pieces will be performed by the Senior and Junior sections of the group and also by the past dancers of the Company. The pieces are mainly choreographed by the group’s Artistic Director Raymond Lawrence, Jaylen Olivacce, Dorelle Diolen and other senior members of the group.
Artistic Director Raymond Lawrence says the Dance Company gives thanks to God for bringing the group to 55 years and helping them to stage numerous successful events including dance productions, Teenage Pageants and regional tours. He said the group has a rich creole dance legacy and a volume of works of which it is proud and he thanks all the past and present members of the group who all played a role in the outstanding achievements of the group.
Among its awards and accolades the Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company received the Golden Drum Award in 2003 and the Edward Oliver Leblanc Trophy in 1984 and 1985.
Through its many years of existence the Dance Company has performed at all the major festivals in Dominica and has toured several Caribbean countries including Trinidad, Barbados, Antigua, Montserrat, St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. Martin.
Tickets for Waitukubuli’s “RHYTHMS OF OUR ROOTS” cost $40 on Saturday May 30th and on Sunday May 31st it will be $40 for adults and $20 for children under 12 years old. They are available at Depex and Bulls Eye Pharmacy. Patrons can also purchase tickets on the evenings of the both shows at the St. Gerard’s Hall.
