UN’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2021

The Girl Guides Association of Dominica stands in solidarity with the United Nations and recognizes all women in commemoration of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

This year marks 30 years since the launch of the UN’s Global 16-day campaign, a universal call to stand against gender-based violence. Additionally, this year signifies the 10th anniversary of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) sub-campaign “Stop The Violence”.

We encourage the members of the Girl Guides Association of Dominica and the general public to join in raising awareness on the issue of gender-based violence in our society. The 16 days of activism commences today and will culminate on December 10th, 2021. We urge you to be an advocate against gender-based violence particularly on behalf of the women and girls in our society as they are the most vulnerable and usually the typical victims.

There have been gruesome attacks against Dominican women recorded in recent times, the GGAD stands against all acts of violence against women, and we challenge you to join us in the activism for the next 16 days. We encourage you to wear orange, post a quote, talk to someone about the issue, every form of advocacy matters. Furthermore, we invite the public to join us for a virtual discussion on the matter. The topic of this discussion is ‘Gender-Based Violence: Who is the victim?’ which will be live on our Facebook at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th, 2021. Join the conversation, be an advocate, your participation might just save someone’s life!

Help stop gender-based violence!
