The single was highly anticipated after the group’s Lead Artiste, Shelly shared 20 seconds (approximately 3 lines) of the song on social media – instantly going viral and soon organically becoming a TikTok challenge.
The group released the official audio and lyric video on Friday, January 28, which has gained over 30,000 YouTube views through the weekend and is topping streaming charts. The song features the groups lead singers, Shelly and Wawa, as well as female artiste Starsha, with whom they work collaboratively.
Shelly attributes the success of the single thus far to its relatability, its infectious melody and the familiarity of the Lionel Richie ‘I’m on my way’ refrain. “Historically, Bouyon has been an art of storytelling, which is not limited to social behaviors of Dominica, but the rest of the Caribbean and world by extension,” Shelly says.
