This year’s theme for “World Coconut Day” is “Growing coconut for a better future and life“.

World Coconut Day observed on 2nd September Since 2009, commemorates the formation day of the Asian Pacific Coconut Community (APCC). This day also raise awareness of the importance of this crop in poverty reduction.

In Dominica coconut contributes to various sectors such as beauty (soap making, body oils etc.,) crafts, agriculture, hospitality and tourism. 

On World Coconut Day 2022 it must be noted that coconut ranks among the most consumed fruits worldwide and is mostly found in tropical countries.

In Dominica we utilize this crop as a daily staple.

The Ministry of the Blue and Green Economy Agriculture and National Food security has been engaged with partners such as the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) and the International Trade Center (ICT) for a assessment of the sector post hurricane maria and an upcoming national rehabilitation exercise for restore damaged fields, increase the coconut planting area space and introduction of varieties into Dominica.
