The UWI Open Campus and the Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica (CREAD) Collaborate to Provide Development Management Training for Public Servants in Dominica

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus and the Climate Resilience Execution Agency for Dominica (CREAD) have signed an agreement of cooperation to deliver a customised Continuing and
Professional Education (CPE) Programme in Development Management Training for Public Servants
in Dominica.

Fifty Public Servants will be trained in a suite of five courses, curated and developed uniquely for this
project by The UWI Open Campus in the areas of the Caribbean Economy and Its influence on Leadership and Development in the Caribbean, Developing Leadership Presence, Strategic Planning and Management, Fundamentals of Disaster and Risk Management and Project Management Essentials. The programme will run from May 30th, 2022 to April of 2023.

On May 27th, 2022 a programme launch was held to celebrate the partnership and to highlight the boundary partners that have made the training possible. In his remarks on behalf of the Campus, Mr. Ryan Byer, Deputy Director, Open Campus Country Sites, highlighted the importance of CPE training
at The UWI Open Campus, and how collaborations like this are critical to ensuring relevant and homegrown lifelong learning.

The critical nature of the type of training was further affirmed in remarks delivered by Ambassador Francine Baron, Executive Director, CREAD. She expressed gratitude to the UNDP for their significant
contributions through funding the project and training. Honourable Gretta Roberts, Minister for Governance, Public Service Reform, Citizen Empowerment, Social Justice, and Ecclesiastical Affairs further highlighted the need for continued capacity building and empowerment through higher education that is required for public servants to continue to serve the people of Dominica in ways that are effective and essential.

The training programme will be facilitated online via The UWI Open Campus’ Virtual Learning Platform. Participants will engage in synchronous and asynchronous learning through online lectures and group discussions as well as graded assessments. The programme seeks to transform the public sector in Dominica through a holistic and integrated approach and will expose participants to current principles and concepts of leadership. Participants will be led through a process of self-analysis and examination of their own leadership styles and the leadership roles that they play in their various positions within their organizations.

The UWI Open Campus is excited to collaborate with CREAD and the Government of Dominica through the delivery of this training to support resilience and development in the Commonwealth of Dominica.
