The Leo Club of Dominica celebrates 27 years of Service!

The Leo Club of Dominica celebrated its 27th Anniversary on September 14th. The Club is a youth based non-profit organisation aimed at serving the less fortunate in various communities throughout the island. While serving others, the movement allow members to develop self-growth through Leadership, Experience and Opportunities.

This year, the Club celebrates their Anniversary under the District’s theme, ‘Serving from the Heart with Kindness’. As such, the Club continues to adapt to the new normal through this Covid-19 pandemic by executing a series of service activities this week.

Membership chairperson, Lisana Dyer states that prayer is the foundation of productivity; thus, Club members commenced the anniversary week of activities traditionally with prayer as they attended a Virtual Church Service at the Deliverance Baptiste Church with their parent Club, the Dominica Lions.

Subsequently, in keeping with celebrating the month of the Elderly, the Club took the opportunity to donate 2 hampers. The first being a food hamper which was given to an Elder, Olive  Philsbert tenderly known as ‘Ma Sonn’, and her son, Ivon Graham who resides with her from the community of Pottersville. Ma Sonn and her son were truly thankful for the assistance as she showed immense gratitude upon receiving the packaged goods.

The second hamper was a toiletries donation to the Grotto Home. The hamper included a box of adult pampers, a carton of wet wipes and a bale of toilet paper. The care takers were very grateful not only for the items included in the hamper as they were much needed, but also showed great appreciation for the work that the Club has been doing over the years to make a difference in the lives of others.

Health and Geriatrics Director, Jodi Williams expressed that Health is the greatest wealth; thus, contributing towards proper healthcare to persons in need is one of her top priorities, especially at this time, as we try to cope with the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.  Leo President, Eamon Gibbons further expressed that the Club will surely continue to aid the senior citizens, the disabled and the less fortunate in various communities around the island.

To keep abreast of the service activities and projects that members provide, do not hesitate to follow the Leo Club of Dominica on all social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
