The DCF held the finals of the 2023 Big W National Chess Tournament over the weekend of June 30th to July 2nd. After 7 rounds of round robin games the tournament ended with last year’s champion retaining his title. Following are the top 3 winners:
1st place – Nigel K. Francis – 5 wins out of 7
2nd place – Larry Thomas – 4.5 wins out of 7
3rd place – Romel Laudat – 4.5 wins out of 7
(The tie breaking procedures according to tournament rules were used to determine the 2nd and 3rd placements.)
Congratulations to the winners who will receive trophies and cash prizes made possible by our sponsors: Big W, Big Edge Financial Express and the Dominica State College. We applaud all participants in the tournament, as the hosting of such competitions forms part of the Federation’s mandate to showcase and improve chess on the island.
