Students Across Dominica Inspired by Local Author to Celebrate Caribbean Identity and Dream Big

Students from Grades K to 4 at the Giraudel Primary SchoolBerean Christian AcademyMorne Prosper Primary, and Massacre Primary School have been inspired by a local author to celebrate their Caribbean identity and see themselves as “Little Go-Getters” — young dreamers with big ideas worth sharing.

In partnership with the private sector, local writer and consultant Natasha Yeeloy-Labad has been spearheading the Little Go-Getter Dominica Movement — a creative learning initiative designed to spark imagination, confidence, and pride in young learners.

The movement was inspired by Gabriella Labad, a student of Berean Christian Academy, and her friends from Convent Prep, Roseau Primary, and Berean Christian Academy, whose curiosity and enthusiasm led to the creation of the “Learning is Fun” School Tour. The tour, which runs through November 2025, aims to make education more exciting and relatable for students across the island.

Speaking with EMO News, Mrs. Labad — who is also the Lead Consultant at Outsource Development Studio Inc. — shared that “projects like Gabby and the Little Go-Getters show how the private sector can play a key role in making learning creative, fun, and inspiring. When students see real-world examples of success and innovation from their own communities, it builds confidence and fuels ambition.”

During the tour, students received copies of the Little Go-Getters book along with engaging activity resources, thanks to the generous support of National Bank of DominicaCorp-Eff Insurance CompanyExpress CourierJolly’s Pharmacy, and Auto Trade.

According to Mrs. Labad, “the private sector holds a wealth of expertise and learning opportunities. By engaging directly with schools, these partners help students connect classroom lessons to real-world goals such as personal growth, sustainable development, and nation-building.”

The Learning is Fun School Tour encourages children to ask questions, share ideas, and discover how their dreams and actions can shape a brighter future for themselves and for Dominica.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
