Roseau South Climate Resilience Food Security Pilot Initiative Launched

The Roseau South Climate Resilience Food Security Pilot Initiative was officially launched at the Newtown Primary School today. The aim of this program is to empower youth and farmers to contribute towards food security. Samaritan’s Purse donated seeds and tools valued at over $10,000 towards this initiative.

Senator Jahisiah Benoit spoke in this regard and stated that the program was designed to align with the vision of Dominica being the first climate resilient country in the world. Mr. Benoit also mentioned the goal of being climate resilient cannot be realized if the country fails to produce what is needed for self-sustenance.

This initiative is also being extended to roughly 20 farmers who suffered losses due to the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017. Mr. Benoit hopes that this will assist these farmers in getting back to their farms and generating income.
