PM Skerrit Says Follow International Advice And Pray To Combat COVID-19

At a National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) meeting on Wednesday, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that based on advice given by the World Health Organization, there is no need to close our borders. He highlighted the need however to pray and follow the advice of the International community.

He said, “If we start closing out borders, what are the other implications. I think there are preventive and preventative measures that we can take, there are systems that we are putting at the ports of entry and I believe that if we follow the protocols that have been advised by the WHO and PAHO and CARPHA and what was recently adopted at the  Caricom Heads Meeting on Sunday gone and of course we pray to the Most High, whether it is to Allah or to Jesus Christ, whatever name you call him, we can certainly see ourselves through this”.

The Prime Minister said further, “This is a crisis of global proportions, there are many attendant economic difficulties that will follow this, it is natural. We have the IMF and others reduce the projected growth plan for 2020 based on this. They have revised it downwards but for us, for personally, the economic impact is secondary to ensuring that it doesn’t affect any citizens of Dominica”.
