Penalties In Place For Those Who Disregard Quarantine

The Government of Dominica has approved penalties for persons who disregard the quarantine measures set forth by the Ministry of Health.

According to the Coordinator of the Committee for the Reopening of Borders, Dr. Laura Esprit, the following penalties have been approved. Non adherence to mandatory quarantine will result in a fine of $5000 or six months imprisonment. The penalty for providing false information on the health questionnaire is $1000 or three months imprisonment.

Dr. Esprit explained further that persons quarantined at the Government facility are required to pay $100 for PCR testing and $400 for the first night. Any additional night will incur a cost of $225. These fees cover accommodation and sanitization of the facilities. Meals will be provided at a cost of $15 for breakfast and $20 for lunch and dinner.

Dr. Esprit encourages the public to remain vigilant and adhere to the health and social guidelines set forth by the Ministry. These guidelines include wearing of face masks.

Dr. Esprit’s comments came on the heels of the Ministry’s announcement that Dominica has recorded one more confirmed COVID-19 case bringing the total number of confirmed cases on island to 19.
