On Saturday 25th October, 2024 she was recognized at the Caribbean Nurses Organization  conference in Guyana as Dominica’s  Nurse of the year.

Nurse Diane Hogan exemplifies dedication and clinical excellence in her role within the healthcare community of Dominica. Her unwavering commitment to optimal patient outcomes is evidenced through her active participation in daily clinical procedures, where her focus on quality care has consistently contributed to best patient outcomes.

Ms. Hogan has demonstrated outstanding leadership and mentorship abilities, playing a pivotal role in managing ward operations and stepping in as ward sister in the absence of senior staff. Her strong adherence to infection prevention and control practices ensures the highest standards of safety, with her vigilant oversight guaranteeing that all staff strictly adhere to PPE protocols. Nurse Hogan has mentored and coached new Registered Nurses and student nurses alike, devoting extra time to equip them with essential clinical skills, especially in infection prevention, wound care, and hand hygiene practices.

In addition to her clinical skills, Ms. Hogan fosters a collaborative, supportive environment. She encourages her team to take their regular breaks, contributing to a positive work culture that has led to reduced absenteeism and a strengthened team spirit among her colleagues.

Nurse Hogan is also committed to continuous professional development, with over ten years of certification and numerous additional educational qualifications. She consistently goes above and beyond for her patients, often staying after her shift to ensure patients are comfortable and well-prepared for discharge. Her peers commend her as a compassionate and easygoing professional, with performance appraisals frequently highlighting her exceptional dedication.

Beyond the workplace, Nurse Hogan actively contributes to her community. Through her involvement in a faith-based organization, she supports fundraising initiatives and provides assistance to those in need. For these reasons and many more, Ms. Diane Hogan is recognized as the Dominica Nurses Association’s Nurse of the Year for 2024.
