NEPO Meets to Plan for Upcoming Hurricane Season

The National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO) held a meeting at the Office of Disaster Management to continue planning for this year’s hurricane season.

NEPO continues to sensitize the public through its education program on ways to prepare for disasters and how to use disaster equipment like HAM radios.

The meeting which was chaired by the Prime Minister took place on Wednesday 26 June. PM Skerrit who is the head of NEPO expressed dissatisfaction in the level of preparedness exercised by the general public.

Meanwhile, the Dominica Meteorological Office has introduced a colour coded system to represent different levels of emergencies. Senior Meteorological Officer Marshall Alexander explained the significance of each colour.

“We have a colour coded system, which reflects the hazard, so we have green, which would mean that no severe weather is expected. We have yellow which means that you should be aware. We have amber or orange, which means be prepared, and we have red which means to take action.”

NEPO will continue its sensitization by continuing to go into the villages to educate the public.
