The National Bank of Dominica Ltd. (NBD) has once again partnered with the Ministry of Sports to host the highly anticipated NBD/Ministry of Sports Primary Schools Football Championship. This long-standing partnership underscores NBD’s unwavering commitment to youth development and community engagement.
Over the years, the Bank has made substantial financial contributions to the championship, investing more than $250,000 over the past 17 years to ensure its continued success. Michelle Joseph, Marketing Manager at NBD, emphasized the Bank’s dedication, stating, “This long-standing commitment reflects our dedication to youth development and to the communities we serve.”
The championship has proven to be a valuable platform for nurturing young football talent, with many players advancing to represent Dominica nationally. Sports Coordinator Trevor Shillingford acknowledged the impact of the Bank’s support, noting, “Thanks to NBD’s unwavering commitment, numerous players who have participated in this championship have gone on to play for the national team. This initiative continues to serve as a stepping stone for young athletes in Dominica.”
Further demonstrating its dedication to community development, NBD’s recently launched Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy reinforces its ongoing support for sports development on the island. Michelle Joseph added, “At NBD, we believe in the power of sport to drive positive change. Our continued sponsorship of this championship is part of our broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, which focuses on building a sustainable future for our youth and fostering community growth.”
The official opening ceremony of this year’s tournament took place on Friday, January 24th at Newtown Savannah. A total of 40 schools will participate in this year’s event, showcasing the widespread enthusiasm and talent within the primary school community.
