MV NORWEGIAN GETAWAY TO MAKE INAUGURAL CALL TO DOMINICA

The MV Norwegian Getaway of Norwegian Cruises will make its inaugural call visit to Dominica on Thursday January 26th,2023. The ship is scheduled to call in at the Roseau cruise Ship berth bringing well over 4,000 passengers to the destination. A plaque exchange ceremony will be held between government officials and the ship’s captain to commemorate the occasion.

MV Norwegian Getaway was built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, and was delivered to its owner on 10 January 2014. At the time of its christening, it was the world’s ninth-largest cruise ship with a passenger capacity of 3,969 and a crew of 1,640.

Amenities on board the ship include restaurants by chef Geoffrey Zakarian, an entertainment venue devoted to magic called the “Illusionarium”, and another entertainment venue themed in conjunction with the Grammy Awards. The ship is based in Miami and mostly sails seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruises. It was christened in Miami on 7 February 2014, with the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders serving as godmothers.

MV Norwegian Getaway arrival is the nineth inaugural calls for the 2022/2023 cruise season. The ship sails to Dominica from Barbados and will sail from Dominica to Antigua.

With a view of creating an atmosphere at the Bayfront, which depicts the acts of the carnival celebrations, in light of the upcoming Mas Dominik 2023 – Mas ah Lawi, an entertainment plan has been planned. These includes a mini carnival parade depicting carnival characters and live music by local artists.

As of January 23rd, 2023, Dominica has received a total of 101 cruise calls. Together, the ships brought in 107,693 cruise passengers with 41,938 passengers engaging in organized tours. A total of 196 calls are projected for the 2022/2023 cruise season. These calls translate to 314,938 cruise passengers, compared to 189,334 passengers and 143 calls in the 2019/2020 season.

The Government of Dominica will continue its effort in the development and promotion of Dominica as a desirable cruise destination.
