Ministry of Education Concerned About Literacy Levels

The Ministry of Education has urged schools to pay special attention to the literacy levels of students.  Chief Education Officer, Melina Fontaine says, “An analysis of the data shows that schools with significant levels of underachievement must make an effort to boost their literacy levels as this affects performance in all other subject areas.

The schools with significant underachievement will be expected to review and revise the literacy component of their school development plans so that they can give focused attention to that area in the new academic year”.

The Ministry also reported that there was a slight decline in overall performance when one last year’s national assessment results are compared with that of this year. On the bright side, however, there has been a decline in the number of students who receive grade scores of D and E in the examination.
