Roseau, Dominica, January 28, 2026 – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Environmental Health Unit, successfully conducted a Food Safety and Hygiene Training Workshop on January 28, 2026, at the Prevost Cinemall, under the Gender-Responsive Climate-Smart Agriculture and Food Systems (GCAF) Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada..

The workshop engaged twelve (12) participants representing the vegetable, apiculture, and dasheen value chains, with the aim of strengthening food safety compliance, improving hygiene practices, and supporting producers and processors to meet national public health and regulatory standards.
The training was supported by Mrs. Shan Oliver-Julien, FAO National Project Coordinator, and Mrs. Amonia Paul-Rolle, FAO Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist, and facilitated by Mrs. Calma Louis, Environmental Officer from the Environmental Health Unit. Sessions combined practical guidance on food safety and hygiene requirements with discussions on inclusive and gender-responsive approaches to capacity development within agricultural value chains.
Participants were equipped with essential knowledge on safe food handling, sanitation practices, and regulatory compliance, enabling them to apply improved standards within their operations and contribute to safer, more resilient food systems.
This initiative reflects the continued partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture, FAO, and the Environmental Health Unit to enhance capacity, promote public health, and support climate-smart and inclusive agricultural development in Dominica. GCAF Project supports farmers, producer groups, and value-chain actors to adopt climate-smart practices, strengthen food safety and market readiness, and promote equitable participation of women and men across key agricultural value chains, contributing to more resilient and sustainable food systems nationwide.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
