Mexico City, March 25 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum praised the bilateral agreement allowing Cuban doctors to provide services in Mexico, where they are, she emphasized, a great help.

“We have a very good agreement (with Cuba) that also helps us a lot. In other words, it is a bilateral agreement that is very helpful for Mexico,” she said in response to a question about Washington’s pressure on Latin American countries to abandon medical cooperation with the island.

The head of the Executive Branch recalled that it was Cuban doctors who helped Mexico during the pandemic, under very difficult conditions, and that they are currently working in many places and “are paid what they are owed.”

Furthermore, she highlighted that the Caribbean nation has very important medical developments, noting that Mexico purchased the Abdala vaccine against Covid-19 and alluding to an agreement with the island for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.

“These are specialized diabetic foot clinics that we are going to increase, because when faced with the amputation of a foot in a person living with diabetes who has reached that point, there is an alternative treatment that avoids amputating a leg,” he stated, referring to the Cuban medication Heberprot-P.

Regarding the material aid that his country has sent and will continue to send to Cuba, amidst the intensification of the United States blockade against the island, he maintained that this is Mexican Humanism and that this country “lends a hand to those who suffer.”

“We will always defend the sending of humanitarian aid and, at the same time, the right of the Cuban people to elect their leaders, to decide who governs them, to decide their system of government, their economic regime, and also the right of Cuba to engage in trade,” he emphasized, rejecting the blockade imposed by Washington, whose most extreme manifestation is the misnamed oil embargo.
