Lifeline Ministries Launches Second Edition of ‘Book of Stories’

Lifeline Ministries has officially released the second edition of Book of Stories, a compelling 32-page publication that sheds light on the real-life challenges faced by marginalized individuals in Dominican society. Titled ‘Book of Stories 2: Calling for Inclusion…Stronger Together’, this edition was made possible through funding from the British Government via the British High Commission for the Eastern Caribbean and Barbados.

“This book highlights the struggles and barriers faced by many in society, and how each of us can play a role in easing the difficult paths that some must walk every day,” said Tina Alexander, Executive Director of Lifeline Ministries.

The stories featured in the book were first shared during the Human Rights Symposium hosted in Dominica on March 13–14, 2025. Twenty-one organisations participated, contributing narratives that reflect the wide spectrum of societal challenges.

The publication explores themes such as youth unemployment despite qualifications, homelessness and social isolation, the stigma surrounding HIV, infertility, the experiences of immigrants, and the marginalization of the Kalinago people. It also addresses the exclusion faced by some persons living with disabilities.

Importantly, the book does not dwell solely on hardship. It bears the underlying theme of resilience, hope and recovery—showing how some individuals have managed to overcome adversity and how support networks can make a meaningful difference. To further support those in need, the book includes contact information for organisations and institutions that offer assistance in Dominica and advice on what members of the public can do to help.

Book of Stories 2 was born out of the vision of Mrs. Alexander who introduces herself as Sister Tina and was edited by Communication Specialist and Journalist, Ms. Gwen Evelyn. The book is available free of charge at Lifeline Ministries, located at 3 Munro Street, Goodwill. “Donations to our Pantry Fund for families in desperate need are welcome,” said Sister Tina.

Survivor Support Training Initiative

Meanwhile, Lifeline Ministries is already planning its next initiative, a Survivor Support Training Programme intended for persons interested in joining its team which operates in collaboration with Dominica Planned Parenthood Association and Dominica National Council of Women. The team provides support in person and online to people who need help – particularly those escaping violence or in crisis.

The free training is funded by The Maria Holder Memorial Trust and will run from 17:00hrs – 19:00hrs every Thursday in July and August at a location in Roseau.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
