LIAT’s imminent closure catastrophic for the region, says aviation consultant

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (WINN) — The demise of LIAT would have a catastrophic impact on the Caribbean, according to aviation consultant with a Caribbean speciality, James Lynch.

Lynch was responding to prime minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr Ralph Gonsalves’ assessment that LIAT’s closure is imminent.

Gonsalves is chairman of the LIAT shareholders government group of countries and has predicted that the regional airline will go under because most of the countries that use its services are not responding favourably to the airline’s request for US $5.4 million to ensure its survival.
