JCI West Indies Launches Media Literacy Symposium for Police Officers as Part of UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Campaign

In celebration of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week, JCI West Indies is proud to facilitate a groundbreaking Media Literacy Symposium targeted specifically at law enforcement. This first-of-its-kind event will kick off a series of MIL training sessions for police officers, set to conclude by December 30th, 2024. The symposium, scheduled from 10 am to 1 pm on November 16, 2024, at the Police Headquarters Conference Room, marks the initial step in a comprehensive effort to equip officers with critical media literacy skills.

Empowering Law Enforcement with Media and Information Literacy

This symposium is the first in a series of three sessions designed to enhance the capacity of police officers to navigate the complex media landscape responsibly and effectively. With a focus on building MIL competencies in alignment with UNESCO’s Global MIL Awareness Campaign, the event will cover three essential topics:

Introduction to Media and Information Literacy (MIL) for Law Enforcement
● Effective Social Media Use for Community Engagement
● Crisis Communication and Managing Misinformation Online

Facilitated by JCI West Indies, the symposium aims to empower law enforcement to better understand and leverage media and information literacy as part of their everyday interactions with the public. This initiative aligns with UNESCO’s goal of promoting MIL competencies across diverse sectors, encouraging informed and responsible media consumption and communication.

The training series represents Junior Chamber International’s commitment to contributing to societal development through educational and empowerment opportunities, creating a safer and more informed community.

Looking Ahead
Following this initial symposium, additional MIL training sessions will continue through December, providing police officers with further opportunities to deepen their understanding and refine their skills. As this series unfolds, JCI West Indies hopes to set a standard for MIL integration within law enforcement across the region.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
