Institutionalizing Peace: Building a Legal Foundation for Sustainable Peace

6th Annual Commemoration of the DPCW reminds all that We are One in our Efforts towards World Peace

HWPL’s DC office hosted an online event on March 25th, 2022 to honor the creation of the DPCW. The DPCW is a peace-focused legislative declaration that outlines the right of all countries to state sovereignty and self determination. Specifically, this year’s commemoration, under the theme, Institutionalizing Peace: Building a Legal Foundation for Sustainable Peace, spotlighted the necessity of strong institutions, mechanisms, resources, and skills in the development and sustainability of peace.

Now more than ever, peace must be established. The actions against Ukraine are detrimental to establishing peace worldwide, and in direct opposition to articles 4 and 5 of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).

Since 2014 the DPCW has garnered wide-spread recognition with 1.5 million supporters from 195 countries and nation leaders. One of the event’s speakers, Mr. Maximo Augusto Ancio Guzman – Vice President of the Dominican Organization of the Study and Promotion of International Relations, noted how “all of us are truly lovers of peace but it is necessary for humanity to adopt a methodology that induces peace.” when speaking in regard to the DPCW.

During this event HWPL’s Chairman and various VIP partners shared their joint efforts across the globe to create a world of peace. HWPL Chairman Lee Man-Hee exclaimed that adoption of the DPCW “weaves peace into the very fabric of Government, Culture and Law.” In addition, he counseled that “all members of the global community should be messengers of peace,” as it takes innovative thinking and intense dedication at all levels of society and government to create actionable change for peace.
