BASSETERRE, St Kitts — Former minister Dwyer Astaphan has called on the St Kitts and Nevis government to investigate the employment of illegal Chinese workers by Caribbean Galaxy Real Estate, developer of the St Kitts Ramada by Wyndham resort.
Speaking on local radio this week, Astaphan said he has seen evidence that only 25 out of 60 workers at the Galaxy Ramada site have been issued official work permits.
He also said that those 25 work permits had ‘expired’ in December 2018.
Astaphan claimed Galaxy Real Estate mainly employs Chinese workers and is bypassing the relevant legislation, which states that employers must advertise jobs locally first.
